Coming Up: Challenge Class Schedule: May 18 – Come and learn more about the local Michigan Prisoner Reentry Initiative's Mentoring Program. We'll hear from Mentor Mary Heinen and MPRI Graduate Lessie Brown. Washtenaw County has one of the highest recidivism rates in the state - 76% compared to the 43% state-wide average. MPRI seeks to reduce crime by implementing a seamless plan of services and supervision developed with each offender from the time they enter prison through their transition, reintegration, and aftercare in the community. Returning citizens come back to the community needing housing, employment, substance abuse treatment, and most of all- support from the community. Volunteers who serve as mentors provide crisis intervention and help build a support network for up to one year. This program saves taxpayers money in addition to individual lives and futures.
